Dr. Mitchell graduated from Harvard Medical School and received surgical, urology, and research training at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, and the National Institute of Child Health and Development. Dr. Mitchell joined the Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children and subsequently became the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Urology there, and Professor of Urology at the University of Indiana. In 1989, Dr. Mitchell became Chief of Pediatric Urology and Professor of Urology at the University of Washington and Children's Hospital and Medical Center. His interests cover a wide area of subjects in pediatric urology, ranging from urethral valves, bladder dysfunction, bladder exstrophy, and urologic reconstruction. He has an active research program in bladder reconstruction and replacement. Dr. Mitchell has published and lectured widely on these and related subjects. He is a member of several editorial boards and prestigious pediatric and urologic societies.
